Chat with your FunkyTime
What if, instead of opening a report and picking filters, you could just ask:
“How much time did I spend on each project last month?”
“Start tracking time on my website project.”
Well, now you can. FunkyTime connects directly to AI assistants — including ChatGPT, Claude, Mistral, Grok and Perplexity — so you can work with your FunkyTime data through a natural conversation.
FunkyTime meets AI assistants
This new integration allows you to give your AI assistant direct access to the data stored in your own FunkyTime account — projects, clients, activities, time entries, and expenses. So no need to download a report and upload it — it all happens automatically. Depending on what you ask, it can look things up for you, or it can even make changes on your behalf.
A few things you can try:
- “How many hours did I work last week?”
- “Show my time per client for July.”
- “Which activities took most of my time last month?”
- “How much can I invoice client X this month?” (an estimate based on the rates you configured)
- “Create a new project Y and start tracking time on it.”
- “Log two hours of development work yesterday afternoon.”
The assistant can combine multiple pieces of FunkyTime data to answer questions that a single report normally couldn’t — like comparing time across projects and time periods.
Now, how to set this up?
ChatGPT plugin
FunkyTime is easily available in ChatGPT through the FunkyTime plugin. Open the Plugin Directory, search for FunkyTime, install it, and connect your FunkyTime account when asked.
From there, just talk to ChatGPT normally:
“Compare the time I spent on my three biggest projects during the last three months.”
ChatGPT figures out which data it needs and retrieves it. For anything that changes data — like tracking or editing time — it will ask you to confirm.
Claude, Mistral, Grok, Perplexity
These assistants support custom MCP connectors, and FunkyTime works the same way in each of them:
- Add a new ‘custom connector’ and name it FunkyTime.
- Enter the FunkyTime MCP server URL:
https://api.funkytime.com/mcp/user - Authenticate with FunkyTime when prompted.
Once connected, ask away!
The menus differ slightly between these assistants:
Mistral: Context > Connectors
Claude: Customize > Connectors
Grok: Abilities & Connectors > Connectors
Perplexity: All Settings > Connectors (but it requires a paid plan to create a ‘custom connector’)
Gemini does not yet support this for regular users — we’ll add it here as soon as that changes.
Will it have unlimited access?
Don’t worry: your AI assistant won’t suddenly delete all your time entries. It will usually ask for explicit approval for any actions that will change or delete something — and it will never delete anything that it didn’t create. Also note that for now, you can only make changes to your own personal projects and time entries – you cannot yet manage your organization’s projects and collaborators through this connection.
You’re in control of what you ask it to do. But as with any AI-generated analysis, double-check important figures or consequential actions before relying on them.
Traditional reports
The original FunkyTime reports you’re used to aren’t going anywhere — they’re still the best choice when you know exactly what overview you need, or if you want something repeatable.
AI is for when you just have a question: “Where did my time go this month?”
That’s chatting with your FunkyTime.
